The first thing I see is a rather posh bar directly at the back of the room. Holding my head high (and refusing to look at anyone seated), I stride confidently towards that gleaming wooden masterpiece and the bartender who is laughing at a patron's comment. Soft music plays, and the lights are slightly dimmed, perfectly supporting the restaurant's relaxed, semi-casual theme. In my peripheral view, I note single taper candles lit on each table, adding to the intimate atmosphere.
Each step closer to the bartender makes me 'need' that drink a little more. Without batting an eyelash, I request a shot of dark rum and, as elegantly as possible, down the liquid in one gulp. I release a long exhale, fully expecting my heart to return beating at a normal rate shortly. The bartender smiles and asks if one will do, or would I perhaps need another.
"And here I was trying to be as discreet as possible," I said.
"Not at all," she replied with a wink.
